Solid 2x6 IPe “Ironwood” foundational structure for our outdoor listening area. These beams were reclaimed from a pier exposed to lake Travis for 30 years. What an amazing material. The shorter lengths of these boards wouldn’t allow for traditional deck construction with 90 degree joists, so I took each board as it was and designed a bit more complicated structure to maximize strength, minimize waste and maximize ultimate longevity: utilizing strictly IPE, stainless steel fasteners, concrete and rosenut oil finish. Accounting for the natural tree cover, this could potentially survive the century.
